I need to apologize for taking so long with this post as well. With life and everything going so fast I sat on this for a while. It's totally Ok to send me a reminder e-mail people if I said I would post something and it's been a while.
Cut Out Shapes are singer Chris Ward and guitarist/bassist Chris Wood. The band are based in Leeds and Manchester in the North of England. The band formed in 2009 and have produced one EP and five singles so far.

They have had some really good press reports over in the UK and also a few notable live supporting gigs under their belt.
For me this is a complete mix of shoegaze, some elements of a garage band sound, possibly some post grunge along with some really great guitar riffs. I caught up with Chris Wood and asked a few questions for this post. I just realized they are both named Chris and their last names both start with a W...;)
With this being a duo and for me the sound is pretty involved with drum beats, guitars and vocals I know there will have to be more than 2 playing live. I asked how they would translate this album playing in a live setting.
CW: Currently we are getting a live band together involving five people as the sound is very dense on the recordings with two guitar parts playing through most tunes and a bassline, too. In the past we did play as a three piece most of the time live but the sound on the album is too big to fit with just three. The other change with adding 5 members is that Chris Ward will just be singing to be able to showcase his singing ability instead of singing and playing bass guitar.
I also asked who their dream tour would be with:
CW: Regarding touring with our favorite bands I would love to be a part of the current QOTSA, Warpaint sandwich which is going around the USA. Also playing any gigs with Smashing Pumpkins would be amazing as they are a big influence on my song writing. We also love english new wave bands such as Magazine (hmm..maybe where they got the band name ;) and PIL. Would be great to meet the Manic Street Preachers and if one of our favourite bands reformed and we managed to play on the same bill that would be awesome (Chester band Mansun). There are loads of other great live bands but those stick out as particular favourites of ours.
Goals for Cut Out Shapes in the next year
CW: Plans for the rest of the year are to get the live band playing the tracks as well as the recordings before doing any gigs and then we will see who wants to have us play for them. We know quite a few promoters around the Uk now but we would have to have a good deal in place before putting the key in the ignition as we all have busy schedules where people pay us money to work ;)
The aim is to sell as many albums as we can so that we can become more self sufficient with our music and record more tracks in the near future for another EP. We still have around 6 songs that we haven't recorded yet and we have some crackers up our sleeves for that.
