Aside from my Royal Blood post - this might be one of my harder rock postings but that is OK. I am definitely a rock n' roll chick at heart and that probably has something to do with the fact of being raised on Led Zeppelin, The Stones, The Who, Pink Floyd and even Def Leppard which I am not afraid to admit.
The great thing about SkyBurnsRed is that they bring in the true rock element with an added instrument - the violin. It totally works and what I feel sets them apart from everything else that is being put out at the moment. I have a scary picture of the album cover for Machines but instead I am going to share a pic with the actual band members because I want to see who is making this great music.
SkyBurnsRed is Jase Johnson (vocals, guitar), Michael Bowditch (bass), Laura Williams (violin) and James Gray (drums)
SkyBurnsRed has been together as a band for about 2/3 years - I caught up with Michael to get a little background and ask a couple of questions.
WMB: How did you decide on a rock band with a violin?
MB: Jase and myself have been making music for many years in different bands and finally settled down as a 4 piece rock band without a violinist. After one of our many drummers left we decided to start again for a 3 piece with a new drummer and that was going well but felt it wasn't anything different to what was already out there. One drunken night Jase was chatting with his friend Laura and discussed her coming along and trying out some songs together - we tried it, loved it and have been together making music since.
The problem we have had is drummers - they just seem to disappear somewhere and we have to find new ones but James has been with us for a couple of years and it's going great and making the album is a dream come true.
WMB: What are some upcoming goals for SkyBurnsRed?
MB: The goal for the coming year is to get people listening to the album and try and get gigs everywhere around the country and get a buzz going around us.
WMB: Who would your dream tour be with?
MB: Our dream tour would be to try and support a major act if that was possible and any of our favorite bands would be so nice so Biffy Clyro, Manchester Orchestra, or the Foo Fighters.
WMB: I noticed you guys have a pretty large twitter following - how has that helped get the word out?
MB: The large twitter following helps and has gotten us air play over in different countries and reviews from all around the world, from Australia to America and lots of places in between. This then helps other people that may not have ever heard of us to read or hear about us and start liking us. It's great. We are still new to the social media side of it but realize how important it is if you want to stand a chance of making it in the business.
I am going to post one of my favorites - Malfunction from their brand new album Machines. If you have kids you definitely need to check out the track Little Man as well. Very sweet track for me personally.
