If you're looking for a chill, dreamy set at ACL this year, look no further than Sunday (1994). Fans of Beach House and Mazzy Star will immediately feel at home with their sound, but to me they almost feel like a female-fronted version of Cigarettes After Sex. Ethereal vocals float over shimmering guitars, while the lyrics drift between love, longing, heartbreak, and the quiet moments in between. It's the kind of music that doesn't demand your attention. It gently pulls you in.
The Los Angeles trio is made up of Paige Turner (vocals), Lee Newell (guitar), and Puma (drums). Their sound blends the hazy atmosphere of early '90s dream pop with a modern indie edge, creating songs that feel both nostalgic and fresh.
The band has continued building momentum with their Devotion EP and its recent deluxe release, adding even more depth to a catalog that's quickly becoming one of my favorite discoveries this year.
If you're hearing them for the first time, my favorite track is "Rain." It perfectly captures everything I love about Sunday (1994): dreamy guitars, Paige's effortless vocals, and an atmosphere that makes you want to hit repeat.
I guarantee anyone camping out at their stage waiting for a headliner will leave with a new favorite band. Sunday (1994) has a way of turning a casual listen into a "Who is this?" moment, and I have a feeling they'll earn plenty of new fans at ACL this October.
